Healthy Dinner Habit – Start with a Salad or a Big Serving of Veggies

If healthy eating and weight loss are goals you’d like to implement, there’s one simple change you can add to your daily meals that will make a world of difference...small changes...one step at a time. Start by just adding a salad or vegetables to your dinner and eating them first can help improve your diet in several ways. It’s true. Check out the benefits of this healthy dinner habit.

Eat Fewer Calories

By eating a significant amount of salad or vegetables before the rest of your meal, you’ll feel full more quickly. This will result in the desire to eat smaller portions and consume fewer calories overall. Eating food with high nutrients and fewer calories such as a salad or steamed or raw veggies can provide you with the building blocks you need. Eating these food choices first allows your brain the time it needs to feel full. Lower calorie consumption can aid in weight...

Want to Lose Weight? Get in the Habit of Recording Your Weight Daily

Over the years, there’s been some controversy over whether it’s a good idea to weigh yourself daily. Some believe it leads to discouragement and overly-critical thinking. Recently, there has been research to indicate that it would actually be helpful to track your progress every day. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons you may wish to get in the habit of recording your weight daily.

See Patterns

Weighing yourself daily lets you see any patterns that develop so that you can take action to address them. Seeing how the numbers on the scale go up or down on a regular basis gives you insight on what types of action to take. You might need to adjust your goal if you aren’t losing at the rate you’d predicted, or you may note that you lose more weight the weeks in which you exercise consistently.

Increase Motivation

Checking in daily to see your weight fluctuation can motivate you...

Let’s Start Simple – Get in the Habit of Drinking More Water

Small habits and routines that are beneficial to our lives will move us forward on our PATHS. The habit I’m focusing on right now is drinking water to keep myself hydrated each day. Drinking enough water can be difficult, but you know it’s good for you. Life gets busy, and water isn’t necessarily the most flavorful of beverages. However, drinking adequate amounts is one of the best things you can do for your health. You’ll avoid dehydration and have more energy when you stay hydrated. Read on to learn easy ways you can take small steps to get in the habit of drinking more water.

Add It to Your Routine

One way to make drinking a glass of water easy to remember is by attaching it to another part of your routine. You can easily get two glasses in by simply sitting a pitcher and cup next to your bed. Drink a cup as soon as you wake up and right before bed. Maybe you can place a...

The Secret...the One You Stick With

The Secret...the One You Stick With

What's the secret to a successful life? That's a question that you must answer for yourself, and once you do, it's essential to design a plan...to develop action steps that allow you to live an Intentional Life of success.

I've often defined success as 3 major elements:

  • Practicing forgiveness and loving of all...including yourself
  • Living a life of meaning and purpose
  • Giving back to your community

It took me many years to come up with this definition of success and even more years to live it. As a child, I didn't have the parental figures to help me connect the realities of authenticity, beliefs, or values. I didn't have the family to teach me what forgiveness, love, loyalty, or what the meaning of life might be; however, the dysfunction, abuse, and neglect helped me use adversity as fuel to survive, to thrive, and to succeed.

The secret that I discovered as a child...it's the plan you stick with that leads to success. Let me give you...

 10 Physical Wellness Tips

This is a busy time of year for me with the holidays, family activities, work, and preparing for the next launch of A Pilgrimage to Self for 2019 New Year, New You.

Because of all this activity, I've been reviewing lots of materials from the membership, sharing a series on wellness and abundance on the blog, and doing research for a couple of future projects. It's a exhilarating time for me, and I'm excited to be sharing with you. I know these tips and strategies have been helpful for me, and I'm happy to have the opportunity to share them.

So, let's take a look at my first 10 physical wellness tips that are fabulous for "airing" out your Physical Room.

  1. Eat a varied and balanced diet

People talk a lot about eating a balanced diet. That means a diet that includes elements from all of the major food groups. That’s a good start, but it’s not quite enough. You also need to have variety within those food groups.

The Physical Room

A House With Four Rooms is based on an Indian Proverb that states we should do something daily for our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Today, I’m sharing about my Physical Room.

Because I’m actively working on recovery from some health issues, I’ve decided to begin with a closer look at my physical room. My physical room does not consist of only exercise, but it encompasses so much more. But I can address the issue of exercise straight away; I don’t have a regular exercise routine, but walking seems to fit the bill. I monitor the number of steps I take each day; my goal is to reach 10,000 steps per day and begins with a morning walk. I typically walk for about 45 minutes at a moderate pace and get around 5000 steps to start my day. For the rest of the day, I take the stairs whenever possible, park further away from the entrance than necessary, and stand every hour or so. On the weekends, I often go out for a few hours on a variety...
